Part of an ongoing series of video recordings documenting activity from a domestic interior. Each work takes ad hoc criteria and tries to remain with those choices. In almost every recording, I hold the camera and respond to the unfolding action. This open-ended approach echoes its initial formation. A sight or sound warrants closer inspection. If a camera is near by, it is aimed in a suitable direction to capture audio and video. The recording stops when the action can longer continue. Unresolved, or abrupt endings may occur because limits are reached.
At times, an edited, narrative is produced. Sometimes, months or years elapse before the recording is viewed. Over 20 years since a scene was captured. Evidence. Thousands of hours have been spent looking out of the window. It is a testament to finding ways to occupy and hold space, bear witness and maintain a practice.
A small selection of video stills from these exploratory documents.
